Nitrogen-charged gas springs hold your RV baggage door open at any position without propping, bungee cords, or hands-free balancing. No more doors crashing down while loading gear.

Retro-Fit Installation — No Drilling into Your RV Frame

Each kit includes a mounting plate with pre-applied 3M adhesive tape. Most installs are completed in 30 minutes or less with basic hand tools.

Five Sizes — Matched to Your Door Height

Available in Small, Standard, Medium, Large, and Heavy configurations for lightweight RV compartment doors from 14" to 44" tall. Sizing is based on door height — not width. Use the Size Chart to confirm your selection.

Compatibility & Ordering Notes

Designed as a retrofit new-installation kit for lightweight RV baggage compartment doors. Not a replacement spring for existing lift systems.

Key rules before ordering:

  • Sizing is based on door HEIGHT — not width.
  • If your door is over 27" wide, order a kit designated with "27" Example:  HLK-STD27.
  • If your door has a slam latch, order the next size up.

Not suitable for:

  • Heavy, reinforced, or solid wood doors
  • Slide-out room doors
  • Interior cabin doors

How to Measure Your Door

  1. Close the compartment door fully.
  2. Measure from the top edge to the bottom edge — this is your door height.
  3. Measure the door width - doors over 27 inches wide require a kit designated with a "27" at the end of the kit size; example HLK-STD27. 
  4. Check whether your door has a slam latch — if so, order the next size up.
  5. Match your door height to the Size Chart on this page.

Installation Overview

Requirements: Screwdriver, drill, measuring tape. Time: Most installs take approximately 30 minutes.

  1. Clean and dry the door surface at the mounting location using the included prep materials.
  2. Peel and press the 3M mounting plate firmly onto the door frame at the marked position.
  3. Attach the wood spacer block and hardware to the interior door panel at the corresponding mount point.
  4. Connect the gas spring between the two mounting points and test the door through its full open and closed range.

How do I know which size to order?

Sizing is based on the height of your compartment door — not the width. Measure from the top to the bottom edge of the closed door and match it to the Size Chart on this page.
My door is wider than 27". Do I need two kits?

Yes. Doors over 27" wide require one kit installed on each side. Order two kits.
My door has a slam latch. Which size do I order?

Order the next size up from what your door height would normally indicate. Slam latches add resistance that requires a stronger spring.
Will this work on a slide-out compartment door?

Yes — each kit includes a ball stud and quick-connect fitting specifically for slide-out compartment door applications.
Do I need to drill into my RV to install this?

No. The mounting plate uses pre-applied 3M adhesive tape and primer — no drilling into the door frame is required.
Is this suitable for heavy or reinforced RV doors?

No. These kits are designed for lightweight RV baggage compartment doors only. For reinforced or heavy doors, contact contact@hatchlift.com for guidance.
Is this a replacement spring for my existing door lift system?

No. These are completely new installation kits. For replacement gas springs only, see the Replacement Gas Springs section on hatchlift.com.
